Safeguarding
Keeping children safe in our online classrooms
Last updated 5 June 2026.
EDU DEVELOPMENT LTD (Companies House 13877588) operates the Umaclass Online Madrasah — live, two-way video lessons for Muslim children aged 7–14. The welfare of those children is our first responsibility.
We follow the principles set out in the Department for Education’s voluntary code of practice for out-of-school settings, the safeguarding principles of Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025, and the UK Data Protection Act 2018 / UK GDPR.
Our teachers
- Every teacher holds a current Enhanced DBS check with the Children’s Barred List.
- Every teacher completes a safeguarding induction before their first lesson, with an annual refresher.
- Classes are gender-separated — ustadhas teach girls’ groups, male teachers teach boys’ groups.
- Any 1:1 catch-up with a child copies in a parent or our curator — the two-adult principle.
Recordings and data
Lessons are recorded so absent children can catch up and parents can see what their child is learning. Recordings are stored securely, accessed only by the family and our staff, and retained only as long as they’re useful for the learner.
For more on how we handle personal data, see our privacy policy.
